James Hellyer was first elected as the Torridge District Councillor for the Bideford East division in a by-election held on May 3rd 2018.
He was subsequently elected Vice-Chairman of the Council’s Audit & Governance Committee at the 2018 Council Annual General Meeting, a post that will hold for the rest of this council.
James was born in North Devon District Hospital. He want to school at Bideford College before going to Christ’s College, Cambridge to read English.
After graduation, he qualified as an ICAEW Chartered Accountant while working for KPMG.
James moved back to Bideford after several years working as an auditor. He subsequently started his own business, accountancyEdge, which specialises in dealing with the accountancy and taxation affairs of businesses in Torridge.
This means that James has a keen understanding of how small businesses are affected by government policy.
